it doesn't snow in Wilton*

* Okay, so apparently it does snow in Wilton!

A few times in the 24 years I've lived here it has snowed, but I've never seen it stick. Until today, that is. It was just a dusting, barely enough to be called a dusting, but I was so surprised to wake up and look out the window and think "wait a minute, that's not frost!" The ground is often white with frost in the winter, but this was different! I wish I would have seen it snowing, but I guess the cats and I blissfully slept through that.

It's not exactly "frost on the pumpkin" but here's some snow on the horse manure in the garden:

The roof of the house where the ducks used to sleep:

Yesterday I did what I could to "winterize" the coops. None of them in are coops that need plastic sheeting or tarps (thank goodness, what a pain that is!) but in an effort to minimize the mud, I spread great quantities of rice hulls. The chickens love this, they have a grand time kicking them around and searching for who knows what:

Before that, I was up at 5:15 in the morning to take some chickens to auction. I actually did not look at the thermometer that morning, so I didn't realize until I got home that it was 25 degrees when I left.

I took this photo on the way home, probably around 8am or a little after, the sun was pretty coming through the clouds. I opened the car window to take the photo. Brrrrr! When I got home I curled up in bed with the cats for a couple more hours!

Here's a pretty pic I took late Sunday afternoon when the clouds were getting interesting:

I guess we're in for more cold and rain in the next week. I shut off the outdoor water and drained the pipes tonight, expecting a hard freeze. The last thing I want to deal with is bursting water pipes!

No work in progress pics tonight. I have a lot done but have not inked it, so there would be nothing to see in a photograph.

Snow on horse manure, eh? You really gotta calm down with these arty photos of yours - I'm going to spend the next hour or two trying to figure out the cosmic significance of that... ;-)

I know, it really is cosmic isn't it. ;-)

At least I post photos! Unlike a certain brother of mine, ahem...

Yeah, you try 'doing work' on Blogger and posting photos at the same time... I might actually have to blog at home! (Of course, I might actually write more that way...)
