checking in....

I'm still here, just haven't had much to say lately. All is well, things are good. :-) I'm working on three scrim pendants (one for me, reworking an old one, and one commission), and tomorrow I will start a new pair of pistol grips.

It's been very gray and foggy lately. I haven't seen the sun for a while.

I'm obsessed with getting a cell phone again. I go through this more or less yearly but never managed to break down and do it, but it's on the list of things I absolutely must do this year. Because:

- I need to be able to post a phone # on my website so clients can call me. It's really bad to be unreachable by phone and I can't post the home # up there. This is probably the most compelling reason to need one.
- I lose serious cool-points by not having one
- it's awkward when dudes call me and get my mom on the phone (this is very infrequent, dudes don't call me much)
- it sucks not to be reachable when traveling

I do have serious iPhone envy, I'd like to be able to do all that nifty stuff too, but the phone plan needed to use one is more than I want to spend. Besides, ATT coverage is pretty spotty around here, and my older-than-dirt emergency phone on the older-than-dirt zero-minute plan it shares with Mom's phone is with Verizon, so maybe they could make me a deal.

Every time I get into researching this I pretty much just get frustrated and give up on it. And that doesn't get me anywhere!

I kinda want to wait a while longer and get a really GOOD plan and a really COOL phone. Eh. [throws hands in air and walks away]

Everyone I know who has signed up for AT&T has had to cancel their service and fight for refunds because they did not get what was promised. If you go with them, tape the sales call. You might try U.S. Cellular. We've been happy with them for 11 years.

Just stop thinking and get an iPhone. I was up until midnight last night goofing around on mine - Bejeweled is so fast on it, there are some great word games - and it's really handy when I'm traveling. I sneak text messages during meetings at work, I have lots of my songs on it, AND it has Tappy Tunes! Do I make calls on it? Maybe 2 a month. Oh, and I check my email.....etc....etc. And it's just so cool, I fondle it a lot.

Granny Annie- thanks for the suggestion, I'd forgotten about that company. The coverage map says "strength varies" in this area. I'd be hesitant to sign up for that, sounds like it might not be the best for this area.

Jan- I'd love to have the phone itself, but I'm not thrilled with the plans I see for it. Okay I don't love any plan because it means I have to spend money, but I'm not convinced that's the best option. I REALLY don't care about games, I don't play any games on the computer anymore (well, other than facebook, lol!) but want to be able to make calls and send texts. Email and internet abilities would be nice for traveling, but I may need to start out ultra super duper basic.

Arg, I just want to throw my hands in the air again now.

I think the iPhone is great but the reason I like it so much is that it provides me with entertainment 14 hours a day when I'm not home and can't get on a regular computer. Since you work from home, you might not use all of it's benefits as much...especially since you almost always have access to your computer. The iPhone rate plan is high but it's totally worth it to people like myself that can't leave it alone! Recommendation: if you're looking for a toy get a fancy phone... Otherwise any of the free phones will serve you well!

Thanks Mike. Yeah, not looking for a toy. :-) Calls, text, and pretty basic internet would be super. I think I'll go ogle some phones at various stores tomorrow. I might be tempted by a QWERTY keyboard though. I sent a text once on a friend's phone and OMG what a pain in the butt that is on a regular phone keyboard! Took me ages to write one sentence!
