wordless Wednesday (with a few words)

I just have to explain... I've seen this "Wordless Wednesday" thing on other blogs, so I jumped on the bandwagon. It's supposed to be where you post a photo that needs no explanation. So for me, it'll be where I throw random photos I've taken during the last week, photos that didn't have their own blog posting.

scenes from lately

Righty-o, so as someone commented on my last entry, ten days between postings is way too long. I know! but I do have a fairly legitimate excuse this time around. Blogging has always been a nighttime thing for me, with occasional exception, and for the last almost two weeks I haven't been home at night because I was house-sitting overnight, and although I did have the laptop with me, it does not have photo editing software on it (not that I remembered to bring my camera card reader anyway), and on top of that the internet there was down for several of those days anyway, AND by the time I finished all my chores (here and there) it was always late and I was always just too dang wiped out!

I've been very busy, and time is flying, and I can't figure out how it's Friday again because it just was Friday, that couldn't have been a week ago. Cripes. My big scrimshaw project, the "Greatest Generation" (WWII) pistol and knife is heavily into the sketch/revision stage, and I'm pouring hours and hours of work into coming up with some pretty kick-ass designs, if I may say so myself. This project is gonna rock! I've still been baking like an insane person, but Sunday is the last day of the whole "recipe testing" thing. And then I'll be doing some (how much? I don't know) of the baking for a wedding. I love it, I really do. It does take some serious time though! And of course right now ALL the fruit is ripe. Either the nectarines are late or the peaches are early but it's all ready at once. I made 88 jars of jam this season, I've frozen a bunch of pie fillings, and I'm going to be spending the vast majority of the weekend (when I'm not baking cupcakes or researching airplanes or sketching General MacArthur) canning peaches. Tis the season. Summer fruit is awesome, but holy cow.

Anyway, here are some photos for your entertainment... things seen around here lately:

This is what happens when someone decides to lay eggs behind the hay stack where I can't reach them:

Got your ducks in a row? Aren't they a cute little blended family. ;-) Do you suppose Diego (the rooster) wonders why his kids in the previous photo don't look like his "kids" in the next photos?

Jam!

In the garden:

They're growing!

Angus (left) had a play date today with Trog (middle) and Porter (right). Angus is soooooo tired now! Hee hee!

I'll try to be better about blogging. Really.

just a few photos

We had the first super hot day of summer today. On the first day of summer. And I'm already tired of the hot weather. I really think I get wimpier every year! Even Olin got a little melty. This is going to rank right up there among my favorite photos of him.

There are a lot more California Quail around this year then I've seen before. I actually took this a couple weeks ago, but forgot about it. They are so skittish they're darn near impossible to photograph, or get anywhere near, so this was taken through my bedroom window, oh well.

And here's another terrible photo, pardon it being blurry, I was holding the The Beast camera up over my head to try to get this and it was dark outside. One of the baby owls was peering out of the nest box just before it got all the way dark outside. By the time I got my camera and went back out, it was totally dark, and the owl had stepped back, so this is what I got by "shooting in the dark."

random pics

Just a couple pics from the last few days from when I happened to have my camera in my pocket. The weather is sooo strange, we've had a lot of rain in the last few days.

No matter how busy one gets, one should always have at least a few minutes to lounge in the hammock and stare at the clouds. :-) Sometimes other animals like to share the hammock too!

And then the next day it rained a lot.

pictures today

Just a few things I've taken lately that I haven't posted...

It was horsey bath time today. A friend of mine who loves to paint horses is coming over to take some reference photos tomorrow, so the girls have to be looking their best!

Zen kitty Olin sends telepathic messages telling me to drop some of my BBQ'd chicken into his mouth.

Peafowl at a friend's place. I house-sat for them recently and spent a lot of time admiring the multitude of peafowl. Anyone want peafowl? They want to get rid of a few...

I'm hatching some Ringneck Pheasant chicks for a friend. Here's two of them hanging out with my 1-week-old Rosecombs before they go to their new home.

And this, I'd have to say, might now be my absolute favorite photograph of all time. Those Pheasants are curious little buggers! This cracks me up!!! :-)
