I sold my 1994 Ford Taurus today, my shiny candy apple red companion for driving all over the state in the last 15 years. It was strange to watch someone else drive it away. I had a nice "thank you for the good times" chat with it on the way to the Park & Sell lot, and yes of course I gave it a hug when nobody was looking.
I am seriously the most sappy mushy person on earth, I know...
Here's a photo to remember the good times. Here we were stopped at "Cowboy Camp" on the way back from Mendocino two years ago. (No, I didn't find any cowboys there):
Thus officially begins the Age of Avalon. May we have as many years together. I think the Avalon and I have officially bonded now after the ~2000 mile drive to Wyoming and back.
It really looked good in that picture!
ReplyDeleteI know it's hard to say goodbye - I went through the same thing when I sold my first car, a 1986 Toyota Corolla. It had 206K miles, it had taken me every where (and I only bought it at 137K). Glad to ehar that you have officially bonded with the new one! :-)

It looked good when I sold it! Super clean, hadn't been that clean since 1995. ;-) In hindsight, I think it's very odd that I never ever drove the Taurus out of state. Obviously I wasn't nearly as much of an adventurer til recently!
ReplyDeleteI understand your feelings exactly. I shall never stop missing Hilda Honda:)
ReplyDeleteHmmmm,
ReplyDeletePerhaps Shakespeare had it wrong...I think it is the Good that we tend to remember.
I am pretty sure there were some blogs about mechanics, funky noises, and not sure the Taurus could be depended on on a big trip?
Besides...I love the "Age of Avalon" sounds like the title of a good book!
(maybe a trilogy)

Yeah, in those last few moments it's easy to overlook the many many bad times. ;-)
